New look Market Development Team for HCC

Apr 10 2012

The drive to get more people in the UK and abroad enjoying Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef has been boosted by two new additions to the Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales team.

Deanna Leven and Philippa Williamson have joined the Market Development department and will work to boost exports of Welsh red meat and promote the brands to consumers in the UK.

Deanna Leven, from Ystrad Meurig in Ceredigion, takes up the role of Export Market Development Executive and will be working with Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef exporters to develop existing markets and open up new opportunities abroad.

Miss Leven is originally from New South Wales in Australia and it was while studying for her degree in Rural Sciences at the University of New England in Armidale that she gained an interest in the meat industry.

After graduating she worked for Meat Standards Australia as beef meat grader before taking up a position with Brisbane based Genetic Solutions. This work brought her to the UK where she helped to run a two year project with Innovis before going on to work for Pfizer Genetics.

She joins HCC from the Cambrian Mountains Initiative where she worked as Business Manager.

Philippa Williamson, from Rhydyfelin near Aberystwyth, has been appointed to take up the new role of Brand Marketing Officer.

The role will see her develop the Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef brands and she will be responsible for HCC's brand marketing including campaign management, consumer websites and and social networking.

Miss Williamson has a degree in Tourism Management from Aberystwyth University and was employed by the Tourism Partnership Mid Wales, working alongside Visit Wales to ensure the region was fully integrated into the national campaign.

She has also worked for Dulas Ltd based in Machynlleth, co-ordinating four renewable energy companies who were delivering a government funded scheme.

Both Miss Leven and Miss Williamson will work alongside Emma Jones, HCC's Market Development Executive for retail, in the Market Development Team which is headed by Laura Dodds.

Miss Dodds said: Deanna and Philippa will both bring a wide range of experience and skills that will be of benefit to the Welsh red meat industry and HCC's efforts to promote Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef to consumers both here in the UK and abroad.
