Welsh Lamb heads for the trading hub of the Middle East

Welsh Lamb will accompany a number of fine products from Wales to the world’s largest food and hospitality show held in Dubai next week for a five-day feast of opportunities.  

Established over 25 years, Gulfood is an annual trade show and is a platform for leading suppliers from all corners of the world to showcase their products and place their finger on the industry pulse.

Buyers from the food and drink, food service, hospitality, restaurant and café sectors will visit an array of 5,000 exhibitors who are keen to expand on sales to the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

Supported by the Welsh Government, Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) will be amidst 14 products such as cheese, biscuits and preserves on the Food and Drink Wales stand.

“Gulfood has a reputation amongst exporters for delivering spectacular return on investment, and our ambition during the event will be to make this happen for red meat producers in Wales,” said Laura Pickup, Market Development Manager at HCC.

“A number of networking opportunities and meetings with new customers have been lined-up to ensure a worthwhile visit.

“We will be offering samples of Welsh Lamb on our stand to visitors who will include a host of heads of state, ministers and government officials from around the globe.”

Welsh Lamb has been available in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 2006 but there has been a significant increase in demand in recent years.

Mrs Pickup added: “The Middle Eastern market has huge potential for Wales’ red meat exporters, especially as affluence levels rise in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).”

Exporters from Wales will be present for the duration of the trade fair and will be involved in ‘Meet the Buyer’ events and store visits.

Gulfood will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre between 8-12 February.
