Top line-up of events on HCC’s Winter Fair stand

Cookery demonstrations by top chefs, a carcase classification competition for farmers and the chance for visitors to win a hamper filled with prime Welsh produce will take place on the Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales stand at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.

There will also be an opportunity for visitors to learn more about electronic recording equipment for their businesses as well as discuss technical and marketing issues with HCC staff.

“Cookery demonstrations using prime Welsh Lamb, Welsh Beef and pork from Wales are always a big draw and this year will be no exception,” said HCC’s Consumer Executive Elwen Roberts.

S4C’s Dudley Newbury will wow the crowds during the two day event with their culinary expertise, and he will be joined on Tuesday by Sian Rees, chef at the acclaimed Sosban restaurant in Llanelli.

Chris Harrod, chef at the Crown at Whitebrook near Monmouth will also give a demonstration on Monday. The restaurant with rooms has this year been awarded a Michelin Star and Chris is also a member of HCC’s Welsh lamb Club of elite chefs.

Farmer Gareth Wyn Jones, star of the BBC Wales documentary The Hill Farm who hit the headlines during the winter storms of 2013, will also assist Elwen during one of her demonstrations on the HCC stand on Tuesday when he will also be available to sign copies of his new book based on the series. Gareth is currently filming a new series for BBC Wales on local food production.

Dudley Newbury is a firm favourite at the Winter Fair, and this year he will discuss his new series of Pryd o Ser which is due to air on S4C early in the new year. The series involves teams of celebrities taking part in various cooking challenges, culminating in a grand dinner for more than 100 guests.

Elwen is a regular on S4C’s Prynhawn Da and Heno programmes, and she will also provide some new festive ideas for the Christmas dinner table using Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef.

A meat cutting demonstration will also be held featuring top UK butcher Julian Pursglove of Sainsburys.

The HCC stand will also feature a beef carcase grading competition aimed at farmers, and visitors will be able to access a bank of laptops as well as a wealth of technical literature.
