National Eisteddfod to stage Welsh culture and red meat

The Welsh language and culture will be celebrated next week during Wales’ leading festival which will also feature our country’s red meat.

Thousands of people will attend the National Eisteddfod held in Meifod, mid Wales to enjoy and embrace all aspects of traditional and modern Welsh culture.

A demonstration kitchen will be located on the maes throughout the week to promote the best of Welsh food and drink, including Welsh Lamb, Welsh Beef and pork from Wales.

Elwen Roberts from Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) will be a guest chef at Y Pantri where she will show how to cook a number of dishes that include Welsh red meat.

Her demonstrations will be held on Friday 7 August at 10:30am and 2:00pm. Elwen, who appeared on S4C’s Cariad@Iaith series earlier this year will be joined by one of its contestants, TV weatherman Derek Brockway for the afternoon session.

“The Eisteddfod attracts visitors from across Wales and will be a fantastic opportunity to promote the quality and versatility of Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef as well as raise awareness of the brands,” said Mrs Roberts.

“Derek’s performance on Cariad@Iaith was excellent, I hope he has an appetite for Welsh red meat and that his culinary skills will also be up to standard!”

The demonstrations at Y Pantri are supported by Menter a Busnes/Cywain on behalf of Food and Drink Wales and Powys County Council.

“We are extremely pleased that Elwen, who is a familiar face to many, agreed to share her culinary talent with the visitors to the Eisteddfod,” said Lowri Davies, Cywain.

Other well-known chefs appearing at Y Pantri include Beca Lyne-Pirkis, Duley Newbery and Anthony Evans.

The National Eisteddfod will be held between 1-8 August.
