Action Plan Achievements Recorded In Final Report

The Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, Rebecca Evans AM, has approved the final annual report of the Strategic Action Plan for the Welsh Red Meat Industry, which included a comprehensive record of six years achievements and outcomes under the plan.

The Strategic Action Plan, which was developed by Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) in close consultation with the Welsh red meat industry and the Welsh Government, was launched in April 2009 by the then Minister for Rural Affairs. It concluded in March 2015.

For the purposes of accurate monitoring of every aspect of the Strategic Action Plan, activities were divided into ten output areas: promotion; research activity and training; animal health and welfare; environmental protection; support for learning and new entrants; supply chain integration; product development; information and advice dissemination; regulatory development and contingency planning.

In evaluating outputs and performance, the Strategic Action Plan Monitoring Committee acknowledged that, since the launch of Strategic Action Plan in 2009, significant and substantial progress against all targets in the ten categories listed had been made and it recorded full details of advances made within 2014-15, and overall, within its final report.

A new Strategic Action Plan for the Welsh red meat industry (2020 Vision), with honed and advanced goals, was developed by HCC in close consultation with the Welsh red meat supply-chain and the Welsh Government to take forward the advances made in the previous six years. It was launched in July 2015.
