Up-to-date guidance on sheep nutrition

Jan 26 2015

A sheep farmers’ guide to tried-and-tested feeding practices has been updated and reprinted - just in time for this year’s lambing season.

The publication, entitled 'Feeding the ewe for lifetime production: taking theory...into practice', now contains new research and information on sheep nutrition and identifies when supplemental strategies and products are most likely to lead to a substantial financial return.

“We released this booklet to emphasise the importance of correct feeding and to highlight how appropriate feed and nutrition is crucial to ensure a sheep’s lifetime performance,” said John Richards, Industry Information Executive at Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC).

“Good feeding practices should be considered all year round, not just during lambing, as they will have long term impacts on the profitability of a farm.”

The publication includes practical guidance for farmers which will enable them to put the theory and latest research findings into practice in their own flocks.

The bilingual booklet can be found on the HCC website:
