Olympic hero leads the way in HCC’s annual Bulletin

Sep 19 2012

Olympic hero Geraint Thomas punches the air in victory on the cover of the new edition of Hybu Cig Cymru’s annual Bulletin, which highlights the wide range of work carried out by the organisation on behalf of the Welsh red meat industry.

The two-times gold medal winner in the cycling team pursuit from Cardiff is helping HCC spread the good news about red meat to consumers, and is pictured on the cover of the magazine shortly after his world record smashing race in London this summer.

“Geraint is a world beater, just like Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef, and as HCC’s sporting ambassador he is helping us to promote the benefits of including red meat as part of a healthy, balanced diet,” said HCC chairman Dai Davies.

A feature on Geraint’s enthusiasm for Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef is included in the Bulletin, which is currently being distributed directly to more than 37,000 farmers and others involved in the red meat industry in Wales.

In the feature, Geraint says: “I feel it’s important that young people are told about the importance of eating lean red meat as part of a balanced diet.

“Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef are excellent sources of nutrients like protein, iron and zinc which are essential to help your body recover after exercise.”

The fully bilingual magazine features news of HCC’s activities over the last year as well as interviews with Chief Executive Gwyn Howells and senior management about their plans for the future.

It highlights the huge variety of work carried out by HCC on behalf of its levy payers, including research and development undertaken by the industry development team, marketing efforts in Wales, the UK and overseas, educational work with students and young people, and how this work is communicated.

“HCC is committed to playing a full role in maintaining a sustainable and profitable red meat industry in Wales, to provide a broad range of economic services to the sector, and promote health and education activities to both children and adults in the wider general public,” said Mr Davies.

HCC’s Bulletin is being distributed to levy payers and stakeholders across Wales. It is also available to view on HCC’s website, click here
