New Head of Marketing for Welsh red meat
Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has appointed Rhys Llywelyn as the new head of its marketing team.
As Market Development Manager, Rhys will oversee the work of the red meat levy board in promoting PGI Welsh Lamb, PGI Welsh Beef and pork from Wales in both the UK and export markets.
Originally from Llanllwni in Carmarthenshire and now living in Trawsfynydd, Rhys brings a wide range of experience to the role. His career has spanned the private and public sectors and independent consultancy; including event management, marketing Wales overseas, and working with clients in many parts of the world.
“The red meat brands we have in Wales are very strong, and we have dedicated producers and a perfect environment to produce meat of the highest quality” said Rhys. “I look forward to the challenge of selling this message to consumers both at home and abroad, and delivering the best possible returns for our stakeholders in agriculture and the meat processing industry.”
“This is a time of opportunities and challenges; none more so than the changing relationship with Europe, which accounts for over 90% of Welsh Lamb exports,” explained Rhys. “It’s vital that our industry nurtures our existing business relationships, while being flexible and creative in exploring new opportunities to promote our outstanding produce.”
HCC Chief Executive Gwyn Howells said; “I’m delighted that we have secured someone of Rhys Llywelyn’s talent and experience to build on the work of his predecessors and to lead our dedicated market development team.
“The role of Market Development Manager has always been a key one at Hybu Cig Cymru,” he added, “and is more important than ever as we react to a changing landscape in terms of trade agreements and consumer trends.”Back to news listing
