HCC brings together farmers and animal health experts to keep flocks in tip-top condition

Farmers and vets from across west Wales travelled to Llandovery last week to hear from experts about the latest animal health research and advice, to help them get the very best performance from sheep flocks.

The meeting, part of the Moredun Foundation’s livestock health roadshow and sponsored by Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), was held at Llandovery Rugby Club, and featured several expert speakers.

Beth Wells and Lee Innes from the Moredun Foundation, and animal health consultant Kate Phillips presented sessions on the control and prevention of some of the common health problems faced by sheep over winter.

HCC’s Industry Development Executive James Ruggeri also addressed the meeting. “It was great to hear insight from top vets and researchers into how best to control pests and diseases, and ways to keep sheep flocks in tip top condition over the winter,” said James. “As well as promoting animal health, taking preventative measures can also improve the financial returns to farmers.”

“The vital importance of nutrition was also a key message,” he added, “and some of the best practical tips can be found in HCC’s pamphlet on ‘Feeding the Ewe for Lifetime Production’ which can be found on our website. HCC has a long history of successful cooperation with Moredun on its roadshow events, to bring the very best advice to farmers. I look forward to this continuing in the future.”
