Welsh Beef is consumers’ choice for top alternative Christmas dinner
PGI Welsh Beef is the top turkey alternative this Christmas, according to Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC)’s latest survey of Welsh consumers.
During the Royal Welsh Winter Fair in Builth Wells last month, visitors to the HCC stand were challenged to choose their top alternative festive family meal. Nearly 600 people took the time to consider which Welsh red meat delicacy would feature in their Christmas Dinner.; the results proving that PGI Welsh Beef is the most popular choice this Christmas.
Nearly 600 people filled out the questionnaire and Welsh Beef proved to be the most popular option with 348 people choosing it as their top turkey alternative. PGI Welsh Lamb was also a very festive choice, with 192 people voting for Welsh Lamb to be on their dinner table this Christmas.
HCC also showcased the All Welsh Christmas Dinner on their stand this year using a Welsh Rib of Beef, which is perhaps the inspiration behind many people’s choices. Accompanying the delicious Beef main were Crunchy Roast Potatoes, Red Cabbage with Apples and Cider, Honey Roasted Parsnips, Pork Sage and Laverbread Stuffing and a rich Red Wine Gravy. All of the ingredients were Welsh and can be sourced from Welsh retailers.
To complement the Roast Beef dinner, HCC also created a starter using Conwy Mussels and a Denbigh Plum Tart, with the help of chef Jason Hughes.
HCC’s Elwen Roberts said; “If you would like to receive a copy of the HCC All Welsh Christmas Dinner recipe booklet to try out a Welsh Beef Christmas dinner for yourself, then please contact the HCC office on 01970 625050 or info@hccmpw.org.uk.
