Plan a path to profitability with leading US cattle breeder

Pioneering US cattle breeder and genetics expert, Lee Leachman will be visiting Wales to headline a one-off cattle conference on October 3rd.

Organised by the Stabiliser Cattle Company in conjunction with Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), the event entitled ‘Driving beef profitability through innovation’ will be held at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.

Lee Leachman is a global leader in applied beef genetics and operates Leachman Cattle of Colorado in Wellington, where he markets 1,500 breeding bulls through six annual sales and direct to producers. The Leachmans have been synonymous with quality breeding stock for three generations - they are the third largest supplier in the United States with 7,500 performance-recorded cows - and are well-known in the purebred cattle business. They have been supplying the Beef Improvement Group (BIG) with Stabiliser embryos since 1998.

During the conference, Lee Leachman will share his experiences of building a world-renowned beef business with a strong focus on profitability. 

Chaired by Richard Parry, Crugeran Herd, Sarn, the conference will also include an introduction to Stabiliser UK by Richard Fuller (BIG Development Director) and a talk on cow maternal performance by Duncan Pullar (BIG Technical Manager).

HCC’s Prys Morgan and Gwawr Parry will provide an update on the red meat agency’s plans for PGI Welsh Beef and developing the sector in Wales. Mr Morgan said: “We are pleased to be involved in this event which features the respected US cattle genetics specialist, Lee Leachman.

“It is vital that farmers are focused on their costs of production and genetic improvement should also be an important consideration to ensure an efficient and profitable business.
