Important grass advice booklet set to continue for another four years

A booklet which offers essential advice to farmers to help them to get the best from their most important natural resource will continue thanks to support from an industry consortium.

Funding for the Recommended Grass and Clover List has been secured until 2016 thanks to support from Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) and other industry organisations.

The booklet is a catalogue of grasses and clovers which have undergone rigorous scientific testing to discover their yield, nutritive quality, disease resistance and persistency attributes.

Lynfa Davies, HCC’s Technical Development Executive, said “I am delighted that we will be able to continue to produce the Recommended Grass and Clover List.”

“It’s important that farmers use the grasses from this list as they have been tested to show what their strengths are so that producers can select the seeds that will suit their needs.”

The future of the Recommended Grass and Clover list has been secured by a consortium consisting of HCC, DairyCo, British Grassland Society, EBLEX, Agricultural Industries Confederation and the British Society of Plant Breeders.
