Awards and Welsh Beef for exceptional citizens
Premium Welsh Beef was served to the cream of the Welsh crop at the St David’s Awards last week (Thursday 23 March).
The annual awards ceremony, hosted by First Minister Carwyn Jones at the Senedd in Cardiff, celebrates the outstanding achievements of the people of Wales, and demonstrates that our country is a vibrant, innovative and confident nation, much like the quality food we produce.
Fire-fighters, police officers, health professionals, sporting heroes, musicians and poets were among the remarkable citizens who were recognised for their exceptional contributions and achievements. Not only were they presented with a magnificent trophy sculptured by a Welsh craftsman, they were also served fantastic food produced in the exceptional Welsh environment.
Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) was proud to sponsor the prestigious event and supplied the centrepiece for the main course. The finalists enjoyed a dish of pan-seared fillet of Welsh Beef served with a sticky oxtail hot pot, spring greens, potato fondant and an aged port sauce.
HCC’s Chief Executive, Gwyn Howells attended the event and said: “We were delighted to be involved in the St David Awards, the highest accolades that the Welsh Government presents to its citizens. It was fantastic to be able to support Wales’ exceptional people who were all deserved award winners and provide quality PGI Welsh Beef as part of a special menu to honour them.”
Welsh Beef is also showing its support at grassroots level and encouraging community spirit with a competition for junior rugby teams which aims to nurture a new generation of national heroes. In exchange for a post-match or training picture of a local team, they could be in for a chance of winning £1,000 towards a new rugby kit, a coaching session with ex-Scarlet Phil John, and a great big BBQ!
