Research and Development
Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) aim is to develop profitable and sustainable markets for Welsh red meat for the benefit of all stakeholders in the supply chain. Therefore, HCC is of the view that Research and Development (R&D) is a core activity to make the red meat sector in Wales more profitable.
Most farm businesses are constrained by the cost of R&D, which is often very costly. While a livestock producer may not be able to develop his own research programme, HCC can allow farming businesses in Wales to have access to vital research projects through the combined resources to benefit the entire industry.
Our Research and Development Strategy
When R&D projects are of benefit to the UK industry as a whole, HCC jointly funds with EBLEX Ltd(English Beef and Lamb Executive), QMS (Quality Meat Scotland), BPEX (British Pig Executive), LMC (Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland) and Agrisearch.
HCC's R&D strategy outlines the objectives for R&D in the red meat industry, and the main areas of research includes:
- Genetic Improvement
- Animal Health
- Nutrition - Human and Animal
- Quality and safety of the product
- Socio-economic, and
- Environmental issues
