Congratulations to MBE Daphne, Welsh “Lambassador”

Hybu Cig Cymru-Meat Promotion Wales is proud to add its congratulations to one of Wales’ most famous and well-respected PGI Welsh Lamb producers who has been honoured with a MBE in the New Year’s Honours List.

Daphne Tilley, of Henllan, Denbighshire, a HCC “Lambassador”, who supplies top London restaurants and stores and whose meat has been served to the Queen and US President Barack Obama, has been honoured for services to the food industry and in particular Welsh Lamb.

Mrs. Tilley is the founder of Daphne's Original Welsh Lamb and is still involved in two family-owned farms in north Wales - while rubbing shoulders with some of the UK’s top chefs and supplying them with Welsh Lamb.

Daphne is so popular with the London restaurant community that her farm regularly hosts visits from top chefs who travel to see the traditional farming practices that go into producing Welsh Lamb of the highest quality.

“Our warm congratulations to Daphne; she is passionate about farming and about her high quality PGI Welsh Lamb,” said Sue Franklin, HCC’s UK Market Development Executive, who has been working with Daphne this year. “Daphne decided to cut out the middle-man more than a decade ago and set off to London to meet with Michelin starred chefs and get them to try her lamb which she would then sell directly.

“As a result of this, her business has grown and her lamb has been served to the Queen, the US President and to Olympians at a celebratory dinner. Her famed Welsh Lamb has also proved a hit internationally with buyers from as far as the Middle East.

“Her lambs are reared up to 1,000ft in the view of the Snowdonia mountain range and nurtured by clean westerly winds, rain and sun. Daphne’s ethos for the business was all about quality; harnessing the unique conditions and landscape within Wales that creates an unrivalled product,” said Sue Franklin.
