Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has appointed John Richards as the new head of its Industry Development team.
The appointment will strengthen the Welsh red meat levy body’s work with farmers and processors, during a crucial period when the industry faces uncertainty over the future of access to key trading markets and support payments.
A native of Llandovery, John Richards has long experience of working in agriculture. Trained as an agricultural economist, he served as Industry Information Executive with HCC, and previously worked at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society.
“HCC’s role in providing authoritative and up-to-date analysis of consumer and market trends is more needed now than ever,” said John. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of ensuring that farmers have ready access to all the information they need to make informed business decisions as we face these challenging times.
He added, “HCC is also in a unique position in that its remit includes the whole of the red meat supply chain. We’ll be looking to work with everyone in the sheep, beef and pork sector to achieve better shelf-life and on-farm efficiencies, to ensure that we have a profitable and sustainable industry in the future.”
