Llŷn Peninsula’s ‘posh sausages’ pop-up in Cardiff

For one day only, a pop-up in Cardiff city centre will be giving away free gourmet hot dogs, complete with luxury table service.

Porc.Wales will open the ‘Posh Sausage Pop-Up’ next Monday, 24 September from 12pm outside Cardiff’s Capitol Centre. Revellers are urged to arrive early due to a first-come-first-served basis and limited availability of competition winning ‘posh pork’ produced in north Wales.

Run by Porc.Wales, the home for Wales’ specialist pork farmers, producers and butchers, this one-off pop-up with a twist is set to showcase the best of pork from Wales to the people of Cardiff.

A team of black-tie waiters will greet diners and offer luxury table service while they dine on some of Wales’ finest pork sausages, all cooked at the portable hot dog cart by pork expert Elwen Roberts of Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC).

Choosing the best sausage for the job was no easy feat as Kirstie Jones, Market Development Officer at HCC explains: “In July, at the Royal Welsh Show, we ran a competition amongst our producers asking them to put their ‘best sausage forward’, so we could find the perfect supplier for the pop-up.

“All entries were very high quality and it was a tough call, but with the help of judge Scott Quinnell, we selected our winner in Gwynedd-based Oinc Oink, with their amazing blend of the finest pork from Wales, coupled with South Caernarfon Creameries’ Vintage Welsh Cheddar.”

Pwllheli based pork producers Huw and Ela Roberts of Oinc Oink said: “As the owners of Oinc Oink, we’re looking forward to giving the people of Cardiff the opportunity to taste our Welsh sausages that contain cheese from the local creamery; Welsh produce at its best!”

Kirstie Jones, HCC added: “We’re really passionate to have a network of featured suppliers who are proud to produce pork which is reared in smaller herds and reared for longer, in a climate and landscape which provides a natural environment to produce delicious, quality pork.

“This is the reason why we wanted to showcase the best of Welsh posh sausages and prove that, when it comes to pork from Wales, you don’t need a five star kitchen to produce a gourmet food experience.

“We’re really excited to open our Posh Sausage Pop-Up on the 24th September and can’t wait to showcase the wonderful Welsh sausages from Oinc Oink, completely free.

“We hope the people of Cardiff enjoy a hot-dog stand with a difference and enjoy truly local produce, with a five star waiting service to match”.

To avoid disappointment, head to the Posh Sausage Pop-Up from 12pm on the 24th September 2018 located outside the Capitol Centre.
