With only a few days left to apply, individuals working in the Welsh red meat sector are called upon to apply for a Scholarship of up to £3,000 to fund a global fact-finding mission.
Awarded annually by Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), farmers, butchers, processors or anyone with a passion for the sector could be the lucky recipients of the generous HCC Scholarship which could make a positive contribution towards individual businesses and the industry as a whole.
Over a twenty year period, more than 30 people have benefited from the Scholarship and have become members of the Scholarship Association. Consisting of all past-winners, the members of this exclusive group have travelled as far as New Zealand and South America to look at varying aspects of red meat production, from genetic improvement in sheep, attitudes to mutton, beef breeding and charcuterie production.
Later in the year, a celebratory event will be held, hosted on-farm by a previous Scholarship winner, bringing together all HCC Scholars who have become respected industry mentors and ambassadors with a wealth of information and experiences under their belts.
HCC’s Industry Development Executive, James Ruggeri said: “We are pleased to offer the Scholarship to members of the Welsh red meat industry again this year, and are looking forward to celebrating the twentieth year of the Scholarship Association.
“We’d love to hear from farmers, butchers or anyone working in the processing sector, as they would be eligible to apply for this opportunity. All they need to do is identify an interesting topic that they feel is worthy of investigation and research, pick a relevant country to conduct the study, and consider how it can be applied to, or is relevant to red meat production here in Wales.
“In return, the Scholarship scheme will arm you with a new set of skills and information to boost your own business and broaden your horizons. Consider yourself a perfect candidate if you have drive, ambition and the industry’s development at heart!”
