A country-wide search is underway to find individuals who posses a passion for red meat, an appetite for adventure and a desire to discover more.
Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) is offering keen candidates a chance to apply for its Livestock Scholarship and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
In order to qualify for funding of up to £3,500, applicants must work in the Welsh red meat industry and demonstrate a keen interest in a particular area of study which can be investigated anywhere in the world.
They will need to be able to justify their application and its relevance to their business and how it could contribute to the development of the industry in Wales.
“The HCC Livestock Scholarship is an opportunity to broaden your horizons and increase your knowledge of the red meat sector beyond Wales,” said Lynfa Davies, HCC’s Technical Development Executive. “You will be given free reign to travel to a country of your choice and investigate new and innovative techniques that could be applied to your own business and the industry as a whole.
“The red meat sector needs ambitious people of all ages to drive the industry forward in the future. These could be farmers, butchers or members of the processing sector. We would like to hear from all of you.”
In the past, scholars have travelled to Europe, Australasia, North and South America to critically examine topics such as genetic improvement in sheep, attitudes to mutton and charcuterie production.
Following a trip lasting between four and six weeks, recipients of the Scholarship will be expected to report on their findings to HCC and the wider agricultural community. This will include talks to local farmer groups and participation in HCC Scholarship Association activities.
More information and previous scholars’ reports can be found on the HCC website: http://hccmpw.org.uk/farming/scholarships/
The deadline for applications is 19 June 2015.
