Welsh Lamb was part of the welcome for one of China's most senior politicians at a dinner in Cardiff.
HCC provided the PGI Welsh Lamb for the celebration, hosted by Welsh Government First Minister, Carwyn Jones, to mark the visit of Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong.
The meal, attended by HCC Chief Executive Gwyn Howells, was part of a two-day visit during which the Welsh and Chinese governments signed a memorandum of understanding on cultural matters.
“This was a high-profile occasion and a great opportunity to showcase PGI Welsh Lamb to a senior politician from a nation that we would very much like to be able to add to HCC’s expanding export activity in the not too distant future,” said Mr. Howells.
The main course, on a menu which consisted of wonderful Welsh products, included the Welsh Lamb served in three ways – rack, breaded shoulder and faggot - accompanied by Pembrokeshire new potatoes, charred leeks, Welsh honey-glazed chantenay carrots & pea pureé in a roast jus.
Mrs Liu is the most senior Chinese leader to visit since former premier Wen Jiabao in 2000. Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to make a state visit to the UK next month.
