Denmark’s top celebrity chefs have come together to create perfect barbecue meals made from Welsh Lamb.
They showed off their skills during a special event in Copenhagen targeted at the country’s top food journalists and bloggers, who were encouraged to join in and recreate the recipes themselves.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the quality and versatility of Welsh Lamb to Denmark’s top food journalists,” said Alex James, Export Market Development Executive with Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC).
HCC organised the event which coincided with the launch of a Danish microsite - http://www.walisisklam.eu/opskrifter - providing the country’s consumers with the recipes created by the chefs.
“After the journalists took the opportunity to recreate the recipes themselves they were treated to a meal cooked by Claus Hasse, Denmark’s World Champion Grill Chef showing how easy it is to cook a full Welsh Lamb meal in 20 minutes,” said Mr James.
“The purpose of the event was to enable journalists to experience BBQ cooking with Welsh Lamb and to tell their readers about its versatility and provenance.
“The recipes were also filmed to be uploaded to the Danish website to give consumers a step-by-step guide,” he said.
Scandinavia, including Denmark, is seen as a key export target for Welsh Lamb with the potential for greatly increased future sales.
“Research carried out by HCC indicate that there is potential to further grow this new market for Welsh Lamb,” said Mr James.
As a result of HCC’s marketing activity, a major Danish retailer now stocks Welsh Lamb.
